Invisible Cages We Keep Ourselves In

John 8:32 “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

A few years ago we found a very small parakeet in our garage after a horrific wind storm. It was a baby who’d obviously just learned to fly. It was cold, hungry and shaking. We brought it in, put it in a small cage and gave it food and water. I honestly didn’t know if it would last the night. It did, and has been in the cage ever since, refusing to leave. As the young bird grew, I noticed it was a girl. We call her Sky, since she came from there. Our little Sky will NOT come out of her cage. She will get on our finger when we put our hand in there, but that’s as far as she’ll go. We clean the cage with her in it, because she panics so badly if we try to get her out. A year ago, I decided to leave her cage door open to see if she’d venture out to explore this place she’s lived safely in for years. She hasn’t even come close to the open door. I’ve never shut the door. She could be free, flying around the house, if she wanted to. But she chooses to stay in the cage, that is safe for her.

As I watch her blissfully talking to her reflection in her mirror, I ponder why won’t she go thru that open door?

Then it occurred to me: Isn’t that what we do in life??? God opens a door of freedom to us but we stay in the cage we make for ourselves.
We are afraid to venture into the vast open spaces.
We are afraid of what others will think.
We are afraid of what life will bring if we go outside our cage.

But God is waiting for us to come out of our cage to a deeper relationship in Him.

Prayer: Abba Father, Dear Lord, Some times I’m a Bird Brain, letting fear itself hold me back from going through open doors You provide for me. Help me have the courage to go through the doors that open, in order for me to have a deeper relationship with YOU. In Your Son’s Name I pray, Amen – Hallelu-Yah!

I was asked why I spell hallelujah all jacked up. The reason is this: Hallelu is Hebrew for “Praise” and also in Hebrew, “Yah” is God’s name. There are no “J’s” in the Hebrew alphabet, and I’m praising God, so I spell His Name properly as I would yours. Just thot you’d like to know too!

I loved the analogy you used Cee…reminds me of a dear friend I met years ago. I was then office manager and she was just starting and I had mentioned I LOVED team building and self development. She looked me right in the eye and said to me while drawing a square and saying “This is my box, I like my box, don’t even try to pull me out of it.” I smiled sweetly and to this day she is a huge fan of my project and team building…I was gentle, I honored her space and found a way to walk in and bring her out with me in a way that allowed her to not even realize until all was said and done that she indeed not only walked out on her own two feet…she had actually grown wings. I adore her and she is one of the bravest women I know…know the funniest part…her name is Charon, however for many years now I always call her C -…LOL I adore her and she is a fantastic human being.
