Grace-Full Thinking

The church I go to is named Grace Point. I like that name, because Grace IS the point of salvation and our relationship with God. I did a word study while the puppies were sleeping today. I have been told it’s “undeserved merit” from God. But what IS Grace? In today’s language, thank you.

Here are a few things I found in my dictionary surfing:

Grace is another word for mercy, clemency and pardon. OK, I can understand it better when I read Paul saying it’s by grace we are saved, not by anything we can do (Cee paraphrase there).

I liked this definition the best: Excusing an offense without exacting a penalty. That has a lot of impactful words. Excusing is forgiving, offense is a hurt or irritation of some kind, and exacting reminds me of a butcher putting meat on the scales, adding or taking away from it till it’s the exact weight you requested.

I’m so glad that the Lord forgives our sin, through Jesus’ redemption, and that He forgives our sins without exacting the punishment we deserve. It is a huge reliefe to know this. I have always thot of God as the big policeman in the sky waiting for me to do something wrong so He can strike me on the head. To know He isn’t waiting for me to do anything wrong, He is waiting for me to take the free gift of salvation instead, and live in forgiveness, is true freedom.
