A Destroyer is Watching…

1Peter 5:8 “…Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (WEB)

Job 1:6-7 “Now it happened on the day when the God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, that Satan also came among them. 7 Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” (WEB)

My head was pounding, my heart racing, as the latest installment of stress was handed to me…. Mark had returned to his old ways.

I suddenly had a vision in my mind of a lion chasing its prey; The poor creature zigging and zagging, attempting to avoid the inevitable. I remembered my pastor’s words in a sermon a year or so ago, as he told us how satan is a roaring lion looking to devour people, and explained to us how the lion waits and watches the herd till it picks one of the non suspecting animals that is a bit weaker so the lion can flush it out when it charges the group, or has strayed from the safety of the herd just a bit and is not paying attention. I said a silent prayer, “Oh, Lord, I feel like the lion is chasing me, wanting to devour me, please be with me and give me strength to stay close to You in the safety zone away from that devil, who is just waiting to devour, destroy and kill me.”

It’s a familiar pattern. I start walking closer to the Lord, things are going smoothly in my life and then it hits – A tornado of trouble. In the past, I’d quickly spiral down in my faith walk, not going to God first with my troubles, but to others, asking for support and prayer. Since the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different result, I realized I needed to go to the Source of all blessings and comfort in order to break this familiar cycle. Instead of getting caught by the lion, I was moved to safety in God’s protection. Yes the problem is still there but my Lord is in control and will handle it. My job is to focus on HIM not the trouble….

Dear Lord, thank You for the safety You offer in our walks with You. Help me to always be mindful of being watched by a destroyer so that I stay close to You and always monitor where I am.  Amen – Hallelu-Yah!
